I live in Cincinnati Ohio USA,. Working out of my home, covering 16 states in the midwest as an Independent Manufacturer's Representative for Ikelite Underwater Systems and (of course) Wakatobi
I became a Scuba Instructor in 1980, and have worked in the Diving Industry ever since. Underwater Photography has always been my passion, and I have been fortunate to have led trips to many exotic locations over the years. Now that I've found Wakatobi, my search is over. Covering the Great Lakes Region for Ikelite Underwater Systems allows me to do what I love, - teaching underwater photography to Divers, and telling groups about my all time favorite destination- Wakatobi!
Wakatobi Dive Resort and Pelagian Dive Yacht
Steve will present the highlights of the resort and live-aboard yacht in Indonesia.
Wakatobi Dive Resort was voted the #1 Indo-Pacific shore diving destination in the 2009 Scuba Diving Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards, along with recognition in several other categories. The late Jim Watt, u/w photographer extraordinaire, dubbed Wakatobi “the world’s best house reef”. So close to the resort that our jetty extends to the drop-off, the coral wall directly in front of WDR starts in about 10 feet of water, and plunges straight down into the blue. On the “House Reef” as it’s called, as well as dozens of other dive sites near by, are the myriad of vertebrates and invertebrates that earned the region’s nickname the cradle of the ocean. Construction of WDR began in 1995, initially as a single building with a capacity of 12 guests. Today, the resort hosts 52 guests in double occupancy bungalows and villas. Other major milestones over the years include the paving of the resort’s private air strip, 4 spacious resort dive boats, air conditioning in all accommodations, spa, and the acquisition of the M/Y Pelagian liveaboard. Originally constructed as a pleasure yacht for Middle Eastern royalty, Pelagian cruises in style with 10 guests through the greater Wakatobi area.
